The Return

The Honest Answer

We went looking for peace in the wild. We found a storm. Portfolio II was about nature as the dream, the wild, untouched, overwhelming. Portfolio III is the morning after that thought. The quiet realization that the places we once tried to escape can also become places of refuge. That familiarity can hold warmth. That repetition can hold peace.

These paintings are about returning to the ordinary and seeing it differently. About the strange moment when the artificial begins to feel human again, and when the places we overlooked begin to feel safer than the distant worlds we once imagined would save us.

The storm beyond the doorway feels immense and unknowable, the kind of landscape people once imagined would hold transcendence. But the laundromat glowing in the distance is where the painting finds its peace. Warm light on tiled floors. The comfort of ordinary ritual. This work is about the realization that refuge is not always found in the extraordinary. Sometimes it is found in the places we once overlooked.
